ABOUT ME
Tazetta Yerkes
I set up my small business as a professional reading therapist in 2020. I built on many years of teaching across age groups and experience working with severely struggling readers. My strength lies in leveraging creativity to help struggling readers with dyslexia and Specific Learning Difficulties learn how to read. I am a qualified and certified teacher in general education ages 5-11 and Special Education ages 6-adult. I am a Qualified Specialist Teacher in Dyslexia / SpLD and a CALT (Certified Academic Language Therapist), a specialist reading therapy qualification requiring 2 years of coursework, extensive supervised clinical tutoring, evaluated teaching of students with dyslexia, and ongoing membership to a certifying organization of qualified experts in dyslexia.
I believe that with the right supports, all children can change the trajectory of their literacy journey. I am affiliated with ALTA (The Academic Language Therapy Association) in the United States and The Dyslexia Guild in the United Kingdom.
How it Works
Academic Language Therapy is conducted in hourly sessions. Sessions follow a detailed routine, which is highly structured to improve reading, writing, spelling, and handwriting.

Students are taught efficient reading skills from the ground up, starting with the least complex skills and moving to the most complex skills. A student progresses through the program at the pace that is right for him, fully mastering material before moving on.

Families are updated regularly with data-based reports that break down the precise areas in which their child is struggling, and note the improvements made in reading, writing, spelling, and handwriting.
